Green Teas

Huading Yunwu (Huading or Tiantai Cloud and Mist)

This is one of several "cloud and mist" teas grown in different provinces. Huading is the highest of all the peaks of Mt. Tiantai in eastern Zhejiang province, and connoisseurs rank this aromatic yellow green beverage in the higher class of "cloud and mist" teas. It is also known as Tiantai Yunwu. Under the name Tiantai Special Grade, this tea won international prizes in 1984 and 1986, a gold laurel in Paris and another gold metal for quality in Geneva.

This area has clouds and mist the year round, but would normally not be considered good tea country because of the strong winds on the peak and severe winter cold. The tea growers have overcome these obstacles by planting windbreaks. The leaves are fired twice, once before rolling and a second time afterward.
